Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque of Sohar was built recently in 2016, situated in the Batinah region of the Oman. Probably one of the closest spots to visit from UAE. One and half hours drive from UAE (Al Ain) border and almost 2 hours drive from the capital, Muscat, but if you are coming from UAE side by road, which is the most usual way to visit for UAE residents, you will love the bautiful terrain.
Sohar city of Oman is a very culturally diverse place. Its a very typical Arabian city, filled with life, modest and kind people and above all its a perfect depiction of Omani and Arabian culture. Oman perhaps one of the fewplaces in the Arab region, where the purity of old and rich culture of Arab can be seen first hand. Comprises of more than 180,000 sq. meters and can accomodate more than 5,500 worhsipers at any givem time in its prayer halls for both men and women. The total area of the mosque is distributed into three main portions. The outer gardens, main structure where we have courtyard and main prayer hall. The mosque is known for its stunning architectural beauty, with a mix of traditional Omani and Islamic elements. The interior features intricate marble work, stained glass windows, and ornate chandeliers. The exterior is adorned with ornate carvings and intricate patterns, creating a sense of grandeur and elegance. I particularly loved the architectural details to accomodate worshipers in this beautiful mosque. The ablution places are kept separated on the left side corner and they are huge and spacious so the cleanliness can be maintained up to the standards.

From the front side, Sultan Qaboos Mosque is acompanied by two massive gardens. The lush green gardens with several trees, flowers and grass bed makes it even more ideal for families and elderly to visit. By the evening, you will see several families resting there, children playing and worshipers resting before and after the prayer time.

Sultan Qaboos Mosque of Sohar has absolutely no issues from anyone to take photos with either mobile phone or professional camera. Mosque is actually under Oman’s Military guards but they are absoluetly friendly and polite. Just inform them and they will let you take the photos of any part of the mosque. I personally took my entire gear and bags with tripod inside and took photos as long as I wanted.
