Photographing Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque of Abu Dhabi
Photos from almost every corner of the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Mosque of Abu Dhabi
The World Famous Central Dome
The composition below is probably the most photographed part of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. The symmetrical composition where the main dome of the prayer hall comes right in between the arch shaped entrance of the mosque is simply an architectural marvel.
The Courtyard of Sheikh Zayed Mosque
The Sahan (Courtyard) section is the largest and most important component of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The main courtyard is covered and has a capacity of 6,750 worshippers. The overall open area is approximately 5,124 m2 and can accommodate 7,000 believers.
During normal visiting hours, people are not allowed to go inside the Courtyard of the mosque, unless someone has a special permission, the way I had some years ago.
82 Domes of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque
Domes are the main feature of the Mosque’s architecture. They serve like diamonds in a fancy necklace. At night time, the blue light show, which changes its color as per the phases of the moon is displayed all over the mosque, specifically on these beautiful domes.
Minarets of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque
There is no way a mosque’s architectural design is complete without a Minaret. There are four minarets in the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, covering the entire area in a rectangular shape. Each part of these beautiful and gigantic minaret represents a different architecture design which belngs to dynasties involved in developing the Muslim Architecture in the past 1400 years.
Prayer Hall of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque
With the capacity of over 7000 worshipers at any givem time, the main prayer hall of the sheikh Zayed Mosque has a jaw dropping effect on its visitors. Not usually open fully for the visitors, but one can see the beauty of it through the space (a walk through) provided by the administration.
If someone is really wondering to feel the carpet below his feet, then he/she should visit the mosque on Friday, during Friday (mid-day) prayer time, offer your Salah and see the beauty too from almost every corner.

Blue Light Display & Pools of Sheikh Zayed Mosque
As a photographer, these pools and reflections of the arch shaped hallways in the water is the most fascinating thing in this mosque. You can easily place them in your composition and take photos of every single symmetrical detail of this amazing architecture.
If you observe closely, you can see that not just the front pillars, but elements from the back ground are also placed perfectly next to each part. A mesmerising feature of architectural design.

Views from Wahat Al Karama
Just opposite to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the UAE’s Martyrs Memorial, also called Wahat Al Karama. This place provides beautiful views of the mosque, with even a perfect reflection during susnet time.
